Beyond the Exhaustion: 5 Silent Signs of Burnout Mompreneurs Shouldn't Ignore

There’s the strong mom and also the supermom. Sometimes those equal the suffering and silent mom who does so much without complaining. But what happens when being everything to everyone leads to not prioritizing self-care? The end result can lead to burnout. Sometimes those signs are silent. While working on some content the Holy Spirit showed me that some moms don’t even know that they are burned out. It feels like the norm. But this can only go on for so long until the little mom that could, can’t.

Burnout often conjures images of complete mental and emotional depletion. While fatigue is a major symptom, burnout can creep in quietly through subtle changes in your physical and emotional state. Recognizing these silent signs is crucial to addressing burnout before it spirals. In this post we highlight some of those sneaky and silent signs of burnout and exhaustion.

Have a daily headache?

One sneaky indicator is a persistent headache. Headaches can stem from various causes, but if they become chronic and coincide with increased stress or work demands, it might be your body's way of saying "enough." Many moms don’t plan or journal which leads to overwhelm.

What Have You Eaten Lately?

Another silent culprit is appetite fluctuation. You might find yourself skipping meals entirely due to being overwhelmed, or conversely, resorting to unhealthy comfort foods for a quick energy boost. This can play a toll on your health and lead to stomach ulcers, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

How Did You Sleep?

Pay attention to your sleep patterns as well. Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, despite feeling exhausted, is a common symptom of burnout. On the flip side, some people experiencing burnout may crave excessive sleep as an escape from daily pressures. Neither one allows you to show up as your best self.

Declined the RSVP?

Social withdrawal can also be a red flag. You might find yourself canceling plans you used to enjoy or becoming withdrawn from conversations. This disengagement can be a sign of emotional exhaustion and a coping mechanism to conserve energy.

Find Yourself Frustrated?

Finally, watch out for cynicism and irritability. Burnout can chip away at your patience and optimism, leading to a more negative outlook and shorter temper.

These silent signs, along with the more well-known fatigue and decreased productivity, all point towards a potential burnout issue.

If you're experiencing a combination of these symptoms, it's time to prioritize self-care. Consider relaxation techniques, delegating tasks at work, and setting healthy boundaries.

Remember, addressing burnout early allows you to recover and return to a healthier, happier state.
